Christian Lacroix, Spring 2009

February 3rd, 2009  |  Published in Fashion  |  3 Comments

Thinking outside the box has always been the way of Christian Lacroix. Spring 2009 is no different. A smashing mix of era’s bring about a look very unique, very optimistic, and VERY Lacroix. Black and white are made bold with splashes of red, or feminine with whispers of muted pinks, barely there beige’s, and pretty peaches. There was an orange piece that struck me as lovely, but for my favorites I choose things I would actually wear if ever I really could. Romantic tulle and touches of metallic add dimension to the overall range. WWD writes about the shapes used for the shoulders in many of these pieces, but I think Lacroix has always had a flair for creating a shocking shape. It takes a certain kind of personality to pull of Christian Lacroix. Here are my favorites:

In any other colors I don’t think I would like this dress, but the contrast of the soft beige and the black, which is made more shocking by those dramatic sleeves make this both sexy and romantic. I would love to examine the intricacies of that belt in person!

Out of my favorites, this is one of my favorites. I would love to have an excuse (and a budget!) to wear this somewhere! I imagine it would be very flattering on most women’s shapes. Even though it’s on the short side, the layers of tulle gives you just enough coverage to feel comfortable and look sexy. And there is something about this dress that reminds me of the 80′s. In a good way.

I am loving this in every way. Where do I even start? Talk about forgiving, this is another look that I think most women would feel comfortable in. That is something a lot of male designer’s forget, I think, which is when we get those items that are made for scrawny, boy like gals rather than remembering that real women do indeed have curves. This look is so elegant, perfect for black tie. Again we see the black and white with muted pastels and I am loving that! The black bow around the neck is amazing. In fact, tonight on Gossip Girl I saw “Jenny” wearing something almost just like this but in an entirely different way, obviously. The shape of the shoulders of the short jacket perfectly balance the width of the silhouette of the skirt, otherwise I think the skirt wouldn’t be flattering. The ornate attention to detail about everything involved in this is what fashion is meant to be. All the way to the texture of the hosiery, I can’t stop gazing.

There is something about this dress that reminds me of some kind of flower. The perfect dress for a spring party outdoors, just as the sun sets.

Another one I am drooling over! How often do you see a runway look that you could really see yourself wearing in it’s entirety? Other than the hair, I could easily see this as being something I would wear. This would be a fun look to try to mimic getting some similar looking pieces in more affordable stores.

Something about the polka dots and the trench aspect of this dress brings the pin-up girl look to mind. With a uniquely modern twist.

The previous look brought to mind the times of pin-up girls, and this look brings to mind the times of Audrey Hepburn. Couldn’t you see her wearing this in Breakfast at Tiffany’s?
